Massage therapy is the hands on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues. It relieves muscle tension and pain, increases flexibility and mobility, and helps clear lactic acid and other waste which reduces pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. Treatment enhances the client’s overall physical well-being by reducing soft tissue discomfort associated with stress, muscular over use, and chronic pain syndromes.

What to expect when you come in for a massage
When you first come in for a massage, you will be asked to fill out a confidential health history form and consent form. Your massage therapist will then ask you some general questions since there are conditions for which massage is not appropriate, and to establish what areas of your body you would like worked on.
You will be asked to undress down to your comfort level, most clients undress down to their underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be fully draped through your session except for the area being worked on.
The room will be warm, quiet, and with gentle music in the background. A professional unscented massage oil or lotion will be used to ease the friction.
Make yourself comfortable and relax. Your therapist may move or adjust your body at certain times or will tell you what is needed. You can change your position any time to make yourself more comfortable. Many people just close their eyes and relax, others prefer to talk. Do not hesitate to ask questions any time.
After massage you should feel relaxed. Give yourself time to slowly get up as sometimes one can feel slightly dizzy after a massage. Many people experience freedom from pain and aches that have built over months of tension.
At the end of your treatment, your massage therapist will ask you to change (providing full privacy once again). They will then recommend a program of care specific to your needs. This usually includes further massage therapy sessions until the condition of your muscle and tissue improves, as well as maintenance sessions to keep your muscles and tissues healthy.
